Ensuring Compliance with Sustainable Aviation Regulations
The European Commission has released an updated list of competent authorities responsible for enforcing Regulation (EU) 2023/2405, known as ReFuelEU Aviation. This regulation is designed to ensure a level playing field for sustainable air transport across EU Member States.
Key Responsibilities of Competent Authorities
The designated authorities in each Member State oversee compliance in three critical areas:
- Aviation Fuel Suppliers – Monitoring the blending of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
- Aircraft Operators – Ensuring adherence to fuel sustainability requirements.
- Union Airport Managing Bodies – Overseeing infrastructure readiness for SAF distribution.
Enhancing Regulatory Oversight
The updated list provides detailed information on the responsible agencies, including contact details and scope of authority for each Member State. Some countries are still finalizing their designated enforcement bodies, and the European Commission will continue updating the list as new information becomes available.
A Step Towards Greener Aviation
With the ReFuelEU Aviation regulation, the EU reinforces its commitment to reducing aviation emissions and promoting sustainable fuel adoption. The updated list of authorities ensures transparent and effective enforcement, supporting the transition to a greener aviation sector.
